This distinguished designation means that a builder has spent close to 400 hours in class, taking instruction from professionals on 13 courses specific to the residential construction industry. It also means that a builder pays an annual membership fee and commits to taking an executive seminar every two years to keep their skills and knowledge as a new home builder current. Aside from successfully completing the required courses, a Master Builder must be a member of the Alberta New Home Warranty program, have been in business longer than three years, and have been an executive or rank in senior management for at least five years.
